As I wrote to strange_selkie: the real problem? Visually? I'd cast him for Turing. He's not as stocky, but he's got the same weird modeling of cheekbone to jawline and his approach to hair and fashion is nearly as terrible. And he can't do the role after Pacific Rim. He's such an echt-boffin here, right down the stammery "By Jove!" as he and Newt are about to do something tremendously stupid (and wonderful) involving an alien brain and a homebuilt neural bridge, it'd come off as burlesque. I can't begrudge him the part: I love him in it. But man, that's a bit of fantasy casting I wasn't expecting going in.
