I'd sign away my trust fund, I would even sell the Jag

Posts are piling up on my desktop again. And this is not a week when I can devote hours to getting them all into internet-showable form, because on Friday morning [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel and I are taking a train to New York for the weekend. Of course, we went to see Iron Man 3 (2013) last night and I want to talk about that.

(I dreamed Rob was taking part in a reading of the original script for Lost Horizon (1937) and I thought this was a brilliant idea, especially if they restored the cut passages where Edward Everett Horton and Thomas Mitchell get drunk and ramble around Shangri-La together. Would someone who isn't me like to make this happen?)

Courtesy of a link-chain from [livejournal.com profile] kate_nepveu, the song that's been stuck in my head since Monday: The Magnetic Fields, "Andrew in Drag." Possibly it should be watched in conjunction with David Bowie's "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)."

Yes, I'm aware the new Jim Jarmusch not only stars Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as lovers, but also John Hurt as vampire Christopher Marlowe. I've been tracking the progress of this movie since January; I saw the cast list and concluded it had been spontaneously generated out of the internet, possibly the Tumblrs of several people I know, and I'm not really sure anything I've learned since then has done much to change my mind.

A question for people who have been on multiple social media longer than me: Dreamwidth's import function seems to have stopped working, in that I have not been able to import comments from LJ for almost two weeks now. The page behaves normally when I start an import, then when it announces it's finished the comments are still not there. I use Dreamwidth to crosspost, but primarily as a backup for LJ, and it's never given me a problem before. Does anyone know what's going on?

Maybe there will be content later today.

I have no idea how I might have started that chain (the video was played at the Genderfloop dance party at WisCon Sunday night, but I don't think I mentioned that), but I'm glad you like it!

Ah! I rarely follow YouTube links, especially when not explained, so that's why I missed it. Thanks for the explanation.

I'd love to get coffee or something when you're in NYC, if you have the time/social energy.

Someone I know must have been responsible for this. Was it [livejournal.com profile] handful_ofdust? Were there sacrifices involved?

*waves to you from the New York area*

Should you have time in your schedules, I believe I have that rarest of beasts upcoming; a free weekend.

They've been fishing your dreams again...

Not to mention Mia Wasikowska as Tilda Swinton's sister. (Before this, I'd imagined them as mother and daughter, but yay, immortality.)

Nice dream, that.

I hope ye have a wonderful time in NYC.

No useful advice WRT the Dreamwidth import, unfortunately. I've not done anything with my Dreamwidth in ages--should fix that. I suppose I could try the importing for myself and see if it works. Good luck!

ETA: Maybe, with luck, you'll get to see catgirls on the NYC subway. I hope you do--it would be nice to have confirmation that this really is a thing.

Another kind of dreamwidth import?

Just so you know, the post immediately after this on my f-list is all about the Jags. The contrast was ... amusing.

Is your dreamwidth that you are importing to set to private? If it is, it will not allow comments by anyone who is not you. I had that issue when I first started.

If it is not, I could attempt to help troubleshoot, but I'd need more details. If you don't feel like handing out details, a help ticket should get you an answer in about half an hour, they were lovely when I thought I was just losing it.

Hrrrrrm. Okay, my memory was faulty; security level of posts and status of comments is more isolated. My problem was that I had the "allow comments from" setting toggled to "nobody", not anything related to my post security settings.

I also cannot find the FAQ I'm dimly remembering (this was, unfortunately, years ago) -- either it's been rewritten or I'm making that dim memory up out of whole cloth. Argh. I was all set to be helpful.

...the ability to archive in case Livejournal folds up like wet newspaper...

Are you aware of LJBook? My apologies in advance if you've tried it and don't like it or don't feel comfortable entrusting a password, even one that you change once the job's done, to another website, but it does exist.

I have to confess I've not had great success with them myself, but it was some years ago when last I tried. Something in one of my entries was apparently preventing it from making a copy, and I could never track down what it was. The administrator at LJBook was helpful, but could only get me so far, and when I did as they suggested and tried talking to somebody on LJ's help service I got a snide response that I should try talking to LJBook and more rudeness when I pointed out that I'd already said I'd talked with them and they'd sent me to talk to LJ.

In any event, I sympathise.
