It's been a very long time since I played pinball, too. The most recent memory I have of playing was when I was reading Fouccault's Pendulum (9th Grade, maybe 1990?). I remember because there was a passage about how women were much better a playing pinball because of **Sexy Reasons** which introduced me to the notion that it might be possible to use your hips and pelvis to manipulate the machine.
Sometime thereafter I found myself in the presence of a pinball machine and decided to throw two quarters after curiosity, and, at an opportune moment, I bumped up against the machine in order to get the ball to go my way.
I learned two things.
1) Males can't do that and not injure themselves.
2) Tilt sensors are apparently more sensitive in the US in the 90s than they were in Italy in the 70s.
