I'm glad you posted this. Slightly less ephemeral!
Thank you! I like not to lose these things. I won't go to my grave regretting it, but I will probably always mind that I never wrote about the Anarchist Society of Shakespeareans' Measure for Measure in February (because this all happened the next day, which at least makes a good excuse), both because it was a great production and because in retrospect it turned out to be my last chance at a review of Rob's acting without the complicating factor of stupid in love that has characterized most of our interactions since. The closest I got at the time was a sort of thumbnail dash for strange_selkie: "The Anarchist Society of Shakespeareans' Measure for Measure was actually terrific. Not all their actors were as strong as the standouts, but their Angelo stands a good chance of becoming a definitive characterization for me, ditto their Lucio, and Rob (the one person in the cast I knew) walked off with all his scenes as the overpromoted Provost, a man far too sentimental to be in charge of a prison and far too stressed to find himself a better job, a grouchy, mumbling handwringer who explodes into tears when the plot goes all romantic in the last few scenes. Also a very good Socko, who played Bernardine. That would be the sock puppet. With a gravelly Cookie Monster voice. Also a scene-stealer." Which is charming, but I can't go back and expand on it without later knowledge seeping in. I mean, I have seen the Provost's eye-watering tie in the wild. It's a lot louder when it's not in that washed-out light. And it's lurking somewhere in the laundry pile, which worries me slightly every time I go to look for my socks.
