I'm appalled by how much Greek I have forgotten, and in fact couldn't read the first quote above (the Sappho poem) at all. The definite article ἀ tipped me off that it was some strange dialect, maybe überDoric-on-crack, but I still felt bad that I couldn't read it. The pseudoPlatonic epigram was easier, and I guess I felt better when you said that Sappho's lines were in Aeolic, but I'm still sad about how much Greek I have forgotten.
