Somewhat more relevantly, thanks for the translations -- they were enjoyable to read. My college classes only included a couple of Sappho poems in the original, and we didn't get to talking about the dialect. I have read a fair number of them in translation, including the 19th-century ones you seem distressed about. I don't know if those translations are fully Sappho, but they are evocative and very beautiful as poetry. I could quote some, but I won't if you'd rather not see them!
