And thank you in particular for talking of her dialect. The professor who taught me my pittance of Attic* in my first year at college, and then Ancient Greek Literature in Translation in my fourth year, never got into the linguistics of Sappho at all. I wish he had done.
*A good man, and it's not his fault I'm pants at the language. I was overloaded that freshman year, and I'll perhaps not ever have much gift for classics, as I need to speak a language to learn it. If they'd offered Conversational Ancient Greek I might have done all right, or perhaps if I could have got the modern language and then worked backwards... But that's neither here nor there, I suppose.
