I remember reading Catullus in Latin class and realizing that the poems I loved the most were the Sappho-based ones.
See, I am very fond of Catullus all on his own wounded, myth-warping, hilariously rude merits; he was not the first Latin poet I read (that was Vergil), but the first one I wanted to read everything by. But he loved Sappho, too, and I love that about him.
