I never saw the show Cowboy Bebop but what made the movie fascinating for me was the fact that I saw it in the same week that I saw The Last Samurai so in light of an American movie that pretty much went "Isn't Japan SO COOOL with its big ass swords and robes and feudal fights?????" I get to see a Japanese movie in which the point was "Isn't America so COOOOOL with its guns and its detectives and suits?"
It felt strangely comforting.
The only other week for movie watching that was that appropriate was when I managed to see Bride with White Hair, City of Lost Children and Hellraiser 4 (sigh) in the same week - every movie prominently featuring evil conjoined twins.
