I agree with you on all points, re Meg. It actually makes the movie hard to watch for me in some ways, which is annoying, because it's given me great pleasure over the years. Of course, when I was younger I identified with Herbert West by default, and was probably almost as contemptuous of Meg as he was was for being nice, and kind, and pretty. But now I'm older, and I see none of that crap is her fault at all, any more than she's to "blame" for attracting Dr Hill's creepy attentions.
These days, I really do wish that Meg was able to make it out the other side older, wiser and (even if dead) transformed. Also that she, Herb and Dan would fall into some sort of threesome, perhaps of the Nite Owl/Rorschach/Silk Spectre II variety--she and Herb don't ever have to like each other innately, but I think they could get to where the respect each other and can work in partnership. It'd've been a far better arrangement for Dan, too, given what happens in Bride of Re-Animator.;)
