In part this is because to me, "opera" means the stuff written by old dead guys yonks ago, and not anything written in the last fifty years. Which I recognize is not fair.
To be fair, a lot of the opera I love
was
written by
dead guys
, but at least some of them died
in the twenty-first century
.
And every now and then, some of them are written by people who are
neither guys nor dead
!
