I find Sayers an example of a fascinating sub-set of people who desperately want to be known for something 'serious', but whose brilliance lies in something they consider to be comparatively frivilous (i.e., writing excellent mysteries rather than theology and translations of great poetry, or immortal comic operettas rather than grand opera). (There's a related subcategory for people who were genuinely good at everything but known for what they thought was frivilous, like Christopher Wren.)
