And every one of them words rang true and glowed like burning coal

Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] fleurdelis28 and [livejournal.com profile] thomasfreund, the Lyrics Meme: a totally unrepresentative selection of lyrics from fifteen songs that iTunes ransacked randomly from my computer. Comment with the titles and performers of as many songs as you can. You're on your honor not to use search engines! I have no idea how obvious these will or will not be: at least one of these songs, I didn't even know I had . . .

1) It must have been Don Pasquale makin' a two a.m. booty call

2) Strange is your language and I have no decoder

3) Sad enough my life's a joke that suffers in the telling

4) There's thunder all around me and there's poison in the air

5) Some kind of verb, some kind of moving thing

6) He came riding fast like a phoenix out of fire-flames

7) My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore

8) Lips grow cold with the rent to meet

9) Do you feel too much? Do you feel too real?

10) With the lights out, it's less dangerous

11) Let nothing confuse me or faze me—excuse me!

12) Love turns grey like the skin of a dying man

13) She's a highly specialized key component of operational unity

14) Now they're going to bed and my stomach is sick

15) And if the Devil is six, then God is seven

2 - Peter Gabriel, "I Don't Remember"

Only
10. "Smells Like Teen Spirit"--is it Nirvana or the Tori Amos cover?
which I'm sure someone else has gotten. (Commenting blind.)

Oh, and isn't the post title something by Bob Dylan?

Number 15 is "Thhis Monkey's Going to Heaven" by the Pixies I think.

Although there is also a good cover of it by PJ Harvey.

It's on Doolittle.

Oops. I running low on context today, I think.

Like everyone else, I got 10! ...and none of the rest of them.

But I am muchly looking forward to you posting the answers, because these lyrics are really cool. I really like 3, 5, 6 and all of them.

14 is 'Jealousy' by the Killers. Never figured you for alt pop. *collapses*

Is good plan, yah.

Isn't number 6 also pj harvey? I don't know her well enough (i didn't even know she covered the Pixies) but those lyrics sound familiar.

Don Pasquale isn't a libertine, in fact he's more of a buffo character. Maybe Giovanni was too many syllables?

[eyes bug out]

no one has yet identified 5 as Soul Coughing's "Super Bon Bon?"

one of the best songs EVVA...

It's actually called "Mr. Brightside."

It's not any of the albums I have, even the limited editions and B-sides; I grabbed it off Limewire myself. I always thought it was a live bootleg.

Paul Anka's covered it too.

It's good night-driving music.

That makes an odd semblance of sense, actually, considering Doughty's fascination with (and overindulgence of, while writing) various illegal recreational substances.

I usually go for the majestic/bombastic when night driving to keep myself from falling asleep at the wheel... Elhaz' The Black Flame, Mahler's 8th symphony, Graeme Revell, that sort of thing.

Yeah, I was a little confused by that . . .

& I cheerfully admit I recognize none. My musical knowledge "has only been brought down to the beginning of the century." The 20th century.
