The show is actually less stupid about virtual reality than a lot of science fiction: I love the character trying on the holoband for the first time, showing up in V-space and having no idea how to stand or even move because he's never done this before and his kinesthesia is all at sea. There is simply a degree to which the start conditions of the world—inherited from BSG, I assume—are just silly. I'm thinking it may be best to approach it as if it were an anime, where people can be named things like "Jacuzzi Splot" and this is not a judgment on their three-dimensionality.
