Have you read Michael de Larrabeiti's Borrible Trilogy? They're marvellous. Eternal street urchins up against corrupt London police, and in the first one, the enemies are, basically, evil posh Wombles. Pan brought out a new edition about eight years ago.

This Simian World sounds fantastic, a bit Olaf Stapledonish. I would love to hear more about it.
