Athena was my favorite Olympian. (A great deal of my fondness for Odysseus was because of her patronage.) There was a sixth-grade costume involving a bed-sheet robe and shiny paper helmet. But--at least as a teenager--none of the Greek stories ever had quite the same resonance for me as Odin and the tree.
