I've been meaning to mention - according to Wikipedia (I think?) the reason 1776 gets James Wilson wrong isn't artistic license, it's that at the time they wrote the play not much was known about him, so the authors made their best guesses based on what they had. Then a whole bunch of his papers came to life and they found out they'd been totally off.
