Zinc alloy: the modern-day curse tablet?

I think that was probably where my subconscious got the idea, yes. I think they may've been train schedules. They were meant to be new, as near as I could tell, but were the dull dark grey colour of the First World War-era zinc coins I collected as a child.*

*Or perhaps they were almost glowing when they first appeared? I don't know how much of this is my conscious mind filling in the blanks with bits of "Well, what ought a zinc alloy train schedule to look like?"
