I can appreciate a film as a participatory, cathartic sort of experience (some films only hold up under those circumstances), but when that is not what I am prepared for, it's extremely annoying. And I suspect that Hitchcock's work does not handle participation well. He nothing to chance. The whole thing sounds quite regrettable.
