As you know, many stories in those settings are truly awful -- so Pressfield looks good by comparison. He shows off by using too many Hellenic terms (which of course is lost on me) but doesn't commit grave errors and manages to make the material decently novel. I prefer Tides of War, in which we only hear of the protagonist who's one of those dangerous beguiling charismatics; in contrast, Last of the Amazons is completely unreadable.
