I, for one, would have been unhappy and unsatisfied if the film industry had stayed with the first adaptations of: Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Lord of the Rings, to name just a few.

Agreed. But in the case of good adaptations, I don't see the pressing need.
