Both the 1956 film of 1984 and the 1954 cartoon of Animal Farm were apparently funded by CIA front organisations as propaganda: the cartoon shows Benjamin the donkey leading the other animals to overthrow the pigs as they're playing cards with the humans,

Ah, yes. I was shown this in seventh or eighth grade. I did notice the departure from the book.

and an alternative ending of 1984 has Winston and Julia, hand in hand, gunned down as they shout "Down with Big Brother!"

Okay; that's hilarious, in a sort of terribly wrong way.

What little remains of the BBC's 'The Caves of Steel' (starring Cushing, and adapted by Terry Nation), can be seen on youtube.

That's better than nothing. I was reading about the production last night; Asimov has never been one of my favorite writers, but I'm still sorry!
