I would not watch this program to cheer up, no.

(I own the 1984 John Hurt version and think it's superb;

I imagine it will hold up on rewatch—I was blown away by it the first time. I just suspect I may still like this particular version better. It felt more like the book inside my head.

I've also seen the 1956 CIA-sponsored version with Edmond O'Brien, though with the more downbeat ending rather than the openly defiant one).

Now, if someone would just find the rest of 'The Caves of Steel'..

Oh, great. I didn't even know about that one! Another case where the master tapes were treated like Kleenex, I assume?

(At least we've got Metropolis . . .)
