Flower in the bedroom don't make it summer

Because I have not posted a playlist in some time, have one: of love and other bad ideas. I hope I do not have to explain that it is not diagnostic of my life.

Amanda Palmer, "Astronaut: A Short History of Nearly Nothing"

Is it enough to have some love?

Barenaked Ladies, "Wrap Your Arms Around Me"

Do you believe we are all innately good?
Do you think that you would love me till tomorrow, if you could?
Would you please turn down the radio so we can speak?

Buzzcocks, "Time's Up"

And I been waiting in the waiting room
And I been sitting in the sitting room
And now I'm whining in the dining room
Waiting for you's like waiting for the man in the moon

The Cars, "Just What I Needed"

I don't mind you coming here
And wasting all my time

Consonant, "Call It L---"

No one knows just where you go
I turn to leave, you're on the phone
No one knows just what you do
I know I need more and more of you

Classic Ruins, "1+1<2"

Who do you blame when all your dreams come true?
One and one adds up to less than two

The Decemberists, "The Engine Driver"

And I am a writer, a writer of fictions
I am the heart that you call home
And I've written pages upon pages
Trying to rid you from my bones

The Dresden Dolls, "Shores of California"

Why all these conflicting specifications?
Maybe to prevent overpopulation?
All I know is that all around the nation
The girls are crying and the boys are masturbating

The Frames, "Fitzcarraldo"

Even the good stars can fall from grace and falter
Like lapdogs that shroud their mystery
And her last words were
I'll see you down in history
It's the only way that we can go

Guided by Voices, "Teenage FBI"

Someone tell me why
I do the things that I don't want to do
When you're around me, I'm somebody else

Human Sexual Response, "Marone Offering"

You've got to put it somewhere—why not leave it where it is?
That's what they say about water

The Mountain Goats, "Deianara Crush"

And you tell me that Hercules died burning
Consumed by an article of his own clothing
That's something I'd rather not be reminded of

My Favorite, "The Radiation"

She told me the whole story
But I didn't believe her when she did
Why I could not touch her
Why we had to just watch films instead

Richard Thompson, "Read About Love"

When I touch you there, it's supposed to feel nice
That's what it said in
Reader's Advice
I've never been to heaven, but at least I've read about love

Pretty Balanced, "Perfect Timing"

Why can't you get off? We're tired of waiting
When you still get off on imaginary dating
Good for you, sir, that was perfect timing

The Secret History, "It's Not the End of the World, Jonah"

Yes, I'm drinking red wine and Coca-Cola
With some skinhead girl from Barcelona
But neither of us are any closer
To the Holy Grail

Sparks, "Good Morning"

Good morning—I'm thinking
I must have been drinking
And said something clever
It must have been the best line from me ever

Splashdown, "Ironspy"

Someone, stop my hands from shaking
Iron in my spine's conducting lightning
Raging anger, yeah, you've never been truly mine
But if you were, yes, if you were
I wouldn't want you anyway

Squirrel Nut Zippers, "Plenty More"

All the girls are monsters
All the boys are whores
So when you lose the one you love
There's always plenty more

And because it may be the best exit music I have ever heard from a movie (Appaloosa)—

Ed Harris, "You'll Never Leave My Heart"

I know you like to get undressed, and I'll be there when I can

Enjoy!

Ah, nice. I'm looking forward to listening to these.

RT's Rumour and Sigh is a grand album, isn't it? It might be my single favourite record of his. That said, I've not got a copy of the Thousand Years of Popular Music one, although I've really liked everything I've heard from it, so that might change once I've heard the whole of it. ;-)

The only one I know of those going in is the one by the cars, which I like. From the lyrics quotes you give, I'm looking forward to hearing the Decemberists one (which I'm looking forward to anyway, because: the Decemberists!) and the Consonant one and the Guided By Voices one, for starters. Plus, the lines you quote from the My Favorite one are pretty intriguing, and I'd have to hear one involving lightning going down one's spine (the Splashdown one).

More later when I've actually listened.

Plus, I love the theme of this.

Oh, thank you so much for posting the lyrics and links! I'm looking forward to listening. Maybe some new things will charge and excite me because I've been in a silent well lately.

Another nominee:

Bush, "Little Things"

I'd die in your arms
if you were dead too
here comes a lie
we will always be true

Repost to fix my crummy html

I only know "Read About Love" and "Don't Sit on My Jimmy Shands." I like both of those very much, however.

Those are good songs. "Vincent Black Lightning 1952" and "Keep Your Distance" are probably my favourites on the album. I'm not sure where my copy's got to the now, but I'll see what I can do.

You've likely heard it already, but here's Vincent Black Lightning on Youtube.

On about July 15th I intend to play all these links and perhaps add some suggestions.
