Don't make the same mistake twice
I have now seen Mission of Burma three times: first at Toad's Place in New Haven, and then this afternoon and evening at the ICA. This may be the most rapidly a musical obsession of mine has materialized into concert attendance, although the Dresden Dolls were equally swift in the other direction; lucky timing, I suppose. I went for the first show and decided to stay for the second and I am very glad I did; especially the latter was on fire. And now I have (their version of) Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic" stuck in my head. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone bootlegged it . . .
That dating-ad meme, which I have seen most recently at
asakiyume's:
Write yourself a dating ad.
1) It has to make you sound as unappealing as possible.
2) It has to be honest—you can't lie at all.
3) It can't sound as though you're deliberately making yourself sound unappealing.
So—
Insomniac academic seeks musical polymath for late nights, lengthy conversations, and nonromantic movies. Gender is irrelevant; the ability to be ignored is not. Ten to one I have more books than you.
It is now autumn. This automatically makes me feel better.

Ah now, if we only lived on the same continent... (We could count each other's books, if nothing more. Find out which of us was cheating.)

"Polymath? How the heck am I supposed to do more than one math at a time?"
"Did you hear the one about the insomniac dyslexic agnostic?"
"Long words turn me on..."

I am actually very good at being ignored in person, as hard as it is for a six-foot-five gorilla to blend into the woodwork. I write far more in a day than I speak in a year...

Your mentioning earplugs in the post-Toad's Place post has invaded my dreams--I dreamt last night that I was in line for a concert with my freshman roommate and we were discussing earplugs. This was rather odd, as the concert wasn't especial loud and was more trad than I think my roommate would've cared for, at least back then.

Much as I dislike to criticise, I must say that I don't think you quite fulfilled that meme. This doesn't sound so very unappealing at all to me. ;-)
The books that you brought were all I loved you for....
I think you succeeded on this meme simply on the basis of "expectations way too high". All potential suitors are full of Fail.
