You mean that I'd be able to find the better translation easier? Any tips on how to spot it?

The first two or three times I saw The Seventh Seal, it was on VHS from Janus Films. If the young couple's names are translated as Jof and Mia, you've got the right one. If their names are translated as Joseph and Mary, beat Criterion over the head with a stick.
