Was it good?

Very. (It has Ronald Colman, Raymond Massey, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Madeleine Carroll, Mary Astor, and a young David Niven. It would have been a feat if it had not been good.) I have still not read the original novel, so I can't speak to the fidelity of this adaptation, but as a classic Central European fantasy—in the sense that Ursula K. Le Guin's Orsininian Tales are fantasy, or Lloyd Alexander's Westmark—with swashbuckling, romance, and some odd corners of politics, it was lovely.

Which tangentially reminds me that now that I have a paid account, I really need to learn how to make icons. I have been wanting one of Ronald Colman as Sydney Carton for nearly a year now.
