And how it gets you home safe and then messes the house up
Rabbit belated rabbit! After five days without sleep, I seem to have fallen over at night and woken of my own accord in the morning, which is so peculiar that I am enjoying it. I keep feeling I should make toast or something, except I really don't like breakfast.
As soon as I read that Tom Stoppard had extensively script-doctored Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), I couldn't believe the possibility had never occured to me sheerly from "Does anyone here speak English? Or even ancient Greek?" I found a breakdown of the script differences and indeed, the line is Stoppard's.
The nor'easter has left a thin glitter of snow in the yard and a glaze of ice on the tops of the yew trees. I am listening to the immemorial sound of a neighbor scraping off the windshield of their car.

Your subtitles broke the player.
(Whole UK's on the same civil time, so, yes! I could be having an afternoon in Wales right now.)

I am not sure anyone has described Wales as tropical since the Silurian.

And wow, doesn't that article just show what a good script doctor can do.

Thank you!

Yes! I still don't understand why it's an uncredited profession, especially when it can be so influential, but I'm fascinated when it can be examined as with this film. I don't actually think I'd seen such a close comparison before.

Thank you! I'm having an entire day! I've just gotten back from the library!

Hurrah! Also, yikes, though. I thought you had been very quiet, and that is not usually a good sign currently. May there be much more regular sleeping!! *hugs*
I knew Tom Stoppard had done a lot of script-doctoring, but that is an interesting article. idk if I knew about Last Crusade, but then I've only seen it once many many years ago, anyway. I know he did some work on Revenge of the Sith, of course, because of my occasional dives into Prequel fandom. He is supposedly responsible for Padme's iconic: "So this is how liberty dies. To thunderous applause." I certainly see no reason to disbelieve it.

I’m really hoping one of my local theatres puts on some Stoppard in memoriam.

Thank you! The last week in November just got bad. Having had a fairly active day with sunlight so far, I am hoping it keeps up.
*hugs*

I had also heard about him doing it, but not Last Crusade specifically and I'd never seen that kind of side-by-side attention to his revisions. In any case, while I have not seen the film often or in years, I have always loved that line and it makes me happy to know its origin.
(There is an unprovable likelihood that either Raiders of the Lost Ark or Last Crusade was my introduction to Denholm Elliott, before I fell directly into him in 2008. I still think Yale should have kept the statue of Marcus Brody from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on Old Campus. It would have been the best result of that movie.)

Good for him. Ouch.

It was much more like structural editing! I love that he was responsible for your favorite parts. Now I kind of feel I should rewatch it for him.

Agreed.

The only Stoppard work I ever saw on stage was Travesties. Rosencranz and Guildenstern Are Dead I know mostly from reading it, although I've watched at least some of the film. And of course I've seen Shakespeare in Love. But like you, I did not know that Last Crusade was largely his (which explains lines like, "'Jehovah' begins with an 'i' in Latin!"). Also, owing to your post, I looked and found out that he wrote Brazil and Empire of the Sun! My Stoppardiana is a good deal more extensive than I thought!

That was a fun rabbit belated rabbit hole. Thank you.
I am a little jealous of everyone's snow, especially those of you in parts south of here.
Is it breakfasty foods (e.g. elaborate breadstuffs) that you dislike, or more eating in the early hours?

ahahahah that makes so much sense. *makes a note to read the script links*

Thank you! That strikes me as a very relaxing salutation.

I think that's wonderful. (Brazil and Empire of the Sun make sense, too.)
Travesties is the Stoppard I meant to see in New Haven because Sam Waterston was starring in it and I had run into him in the corner store and dehydratedly complimented his eyebrows. I can't even remember why I didn't make it. It just still feels all these years later as though I let down my side of a contract.

You're welcome! I wish you snow, too. Do you at least have bright cold?

Both. I tend not to like traditional breakfast foods and about the last thing I want to do on waking is eat. I have had to acclimate myself to at least minimal gestures like peanut butter on rice cakes, but I still never want one. I will make omelets for dinner.

I was thrilled.
