What has two thumbs and has been listening to construction since the break of day? I estimate that I slept a literal hour. The street is a jumble of trucks and the air is a wall of asphalt-slicing whines and earth-dumping rattles and I cannot believe it has been going on since April. I just witnessed a territorial skirmish when the garbage truck had to get up our street. Yesterday we did not have construction and I slept eight hours almost without noticing. I like the sound of the proposed Supreme Court reforms. In my next life I want to be a pair of aviation earmuffs.

In a civilized society, it wouldn't be legal or even contemplatable to subject neighborhoods to this garbage. People would be given somewhere else to go and not expected to pay for it. But we are so, so far from anything like that.
