[personal profile] rushthatspeaks arrived bearing my birthday present, a T-shirt reading "You Had Me at Garum." It is an ornament to my small but treasured collection of classical T-shirts and also happens to be true.

Driving home at the end of the night, I caught a fragment on the radio that turned out to belong to Chalk Talk's "Loveseat" (2022). The song is catchy and the music video cute and queer.

In between these two points, we made dinner and watched nearly the rest of the first season of One Piece (2023–), whose cast continues to amaze me by looking like real people somehow made out of the character designs Rush shows me at the end of every episode. I don't know if it's possible to sweep the Emmys for worldbuilding, but if so, they should.

On the recovered links front, I did not get a chance to post this celebration of the films of Powell and Pressburger in honor of the massive BFI retrospective currently ongoing. I am glad that A Canterbury Tale (1944) has gathered so much love and attention after its neglected beginnings. It still stands a good chance of being my favorite movie.

We've been thoroughly enjoying One Piece too!

I got to admire that T-shirt before [personal profile] rushthatspeaks delivered it. Perfect!

Thank you for that celebration of the Archers.

*hugs*

Such a shame it got so messed about in the cutting room.

Aw, that's great! It deserves it. I liked it a lot when I watched it, and definitely need to rewatch it sometime.

Happy Birthday, belatedly. I am behind on everything but congratulations on another year!

Oh hey, I just five minutes ago read a text with garum in it! (Though not called that; it was the pseudo-classical m/m romance Something Human by A J Demas.)

the films of Powell and Pressburger

They're where I got my name! Well, where my parents did, heh.

All I know about the live action One Piece is that they're re-using the Black Sails ships and water tanks, which gladdens me (they're excellent ships and I'm glad they're continuing to have a performance career).

Really enjoyed that music video and the song that it's presenting--nice!

And so far (two episodes in) I like One Piece too. We got Shonen Jump in print form back in the late 90s, early 2000s, so my kids got started on it *then*. The tall one (the oldest) is a dedicated fan; the others aren't fans of the manga, but I know that at least Little Springtime is enjoying the live-action show.

Happy birthday again! What a lovely birthday T-shirt! Someday, I'll have to try garum. I've been curious since the Tasting History guy on YouTube made some.

What you've written about _The Canterbury Tales_ has made me quite curious to see it.
