The mention of Cape Horn made me think of a story from the yaganes, the indigenous people of that area, that I heard once. It said that you should not look directly at icebergs and act respectfully around them, because there are spirits trapped there, and because of this, if you are standing close to them, you might hear whispering or conversation.
