Everyone around you shines
I wiped myself out for most of the day walking to a doctor's appointment in the morning, but tonight
spatch and I finished Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005–08), which we have been watching over the last month and change; it was his first time through and my first rewatch, except for a couple of episodes with my niece this summer, since 2010. We ordered dinner from O Ginger and I had roast duck udon in honor of Uncle Iroh. Also, Autolycus was conspicuously cute.

That face. That frown and furry furrowed brow. Those absolute ears. World-weary yet lantern-eyed.
I love duck -- how was it?

He is the most sincere. And his ears are absolute.

Delicious! Probably not superior to the duck noodle soup which we had once at the restaurant formerly known as Thelonious Monkfish, but would order again. Duck is one of my favorites. There was a pleasing amount of bok choy swimming alongside.

It's fun to have an occasion to rewatch a really good series. I haven't actually watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I understand the lineaments. What was Spatch's reaction to it?

He is a great shoulder cat.

I think it came naturally set that way!

He was purring at volume, but that's harder to photograph.

He loved it! We'd watched the first couple of episodes with my niece in early July and I assumed he'd seen the show previously, but he had not. We would watch a handful of episodes every couple of nights when he got home from work. I had remembered how it complicates itself from a relatively simple arrangement of characters and moralities, but it really does achieve numinous, epic, still very human levels by the end, and remains some of the most impressive animation I have seen in Western TV. I am confident some of its details would differ if it hadn't been made in the mid-2000's, but it does hold up. I am skeptical of the upcoming reboot, although I hope for the sake of the creators that it's good; the original feels like one of those caught alchemies that can't be reproduced.

And roast duck udon sounds amazing!
"How could a member of my own family say something so horrible?"
Significant portions of its dialogue have now entered our household idiolect.

If you are a person who eats duck, I highly recommend the experience.
