Got miles before me, miles behind

I am fine. The car is fine. The right front tire which blew out so hard that I thought someone had hit me because of how violently the car lurched sideways is not fine; it is in the trunk with a considerable chunk missing. The spare tire previously in the trunk was changed on for me by a reassuringly matter-of-fact mechanic at the Gulf station I was able to pull into, whom I thanked because it seemed really stupid to have to call AAA from a gas station. There was no obvious etiology such as a dire pothole or a bolt in the leftover rubber. I have been in cars whose tires were losing air before, but never one where it just exploded. Could do without repeating the experience. It did not rise to the level of my parents' experience in Philly, where three of their tires detonated in quick succession on the highway in what later turned out to be some kind of manufacturing scandal. I did not hit any of the cars around me, which I really was worried about.

Oh no! I am glad that you, the car, and surrounding cars are fine.

Weirdly enough, this afternoon in my car, a wire dislodged itself from the exterior trim (because the plastic had deteriorated) and started clattering disconcertingly against my driver's side window. (They cut the wire at my service station and ordered replacement parts.) Much less hair-raising than a tire blowout, to be sure!

Point the first: SO GLAD you are okay, that you got the spare put on w/out needing AAA, and that no other cars got hit.

Point the second: Holy crap, unnecessary! Universe, please!

Woah! Glad you’re ok!

Could temperatures have affected the tire (I don’t know how hot it is where you are)?

Whoa! :( Very glad that you're okay, that the car is okay, and that the mechanic was competent and straightforward. Yikes! says I, in dismay at the exploding tire situation.

Glad you're ok! I had a tire blow out after I ran into a curb a while ago. Luckily, I was going slow enough that there wasn't much of a jolt. It was still pretty unpleasant.
