. . . so I can't definitively promise that I will ever write the historical fantasy Carthaginian archaeological pulp adventure this movie ought to have been, but I also can't swear I won't, because I'm in the right part of the Venn diagram to find that concept absolute catnip.

Sweet! What are the components of the diagram?

If I were to idly begin research reading, are there books you would recommend for learning more about Carthage?

Neither is new, but John Griffiths Pedley's New Light on Ancient Carthage (1980) and Serge Lancel's Carthage: A History (1995) gave me a good start in college; the latter has a second edition by now. I have not yet gotten hold of, but have heard good things about Richard Miles' Carthage Must Be Destroyed: The Rise and Fall of an Ancient Superpower (2011). Glenn Markoe's Phoenicians (2002) by definition contains material on Carthage and I love the book generally. Otherwise I read a lot of Greek and Roman sources and random articles.
