We've done no wrong with our blinkers on

Spatters of rain intermittently rattle against our windows, the last of the tropical storm blowing itself out farther south and inland. I can see the wind moving constantly in the sunflowers in the small yard on the other side of the duplex, teal-blue solar lightbulbs swaying among the heavy yellow heads. A few nights ago I told [personal profile] spatch that the air smelled like the tropical forest at the Franklin Park Zoo: it still does, green and humid. I would enjoy it more if I were not so tired. I am feeling more mentally washed out than I have in months, which is saying something. All of the things I am staying on top of are the enervating ones. I am not a person who naps healthily and I have been falling asleep in the evenings as if stunned. If I was going to spend the first half of this month so ill that my life would have gone on hold if I'd had any license to stop moving without drowning instantly, I really feel I should have been owed an official convalescence. I don't think that has been an option in this country in my lifetime.

Did you ever play Chez Geek? One of the features were 'sleep cards', which people could play on themselves to gain rest and therefore points, or which people could play on others to pre-empty more points-worthy activities.

I have been saying of my evening naps, when my body reaches up and hauls my consciousness down whether I will or no, that someone is playing a Sleep Card on me. As in a 6-foot by 3-foot hardwood board falling on me.

Sleep Cards are very annoying, and I continue hoping that you'll continue recovering and they'll stop falling out of Wherever upon you. *warm hugs*

I hope you feel less tired and more refreshed soon.

I had the honor of being made into a card by one of my friend groups in college! I came to your room and I ate all your books.

That wins.

I hope you draw some sleep cards.

I hope you get unexpected free days in which to rest and nap and sleep and get some serious recovery in.

an official convalescence. I don't think that has been an option in this country in my lifetime.

No, only assumed inconveniently by some doctors who don't want to think properly.

*hugs*

I do wonder what things we think are intractable would actually improve with a real convalescence, but wondering that does not make the possibility actually appear and function in our society. Wishing you more--and more satisfying--rest.

Re: this country, see your next entry and the wine press for death. Let's just scoot you out of that machine, please.
