I almost certainly heard of the film when the Harvard Film Archive did its three-part John Ford retrospective in 2010—it's where I saw several of the entries mentioned above—but they must not have written about it in a way that sounded unmissable, because I never tracked it down on my own time. Ian McDowell posted some stills last week and I decided to give it a try and whammo. I hope it's well-known.
