but quite apart from the fact I would have been too young to rent it, the tag line β€œIt’s Your Last Chance to Party...Say Goodbye to Your Brain!” gave me the impression it was a horror film, possibly about a rock concert being attacked by zombies or something.

I can see that. It was probably part of the film's terrible marketing, but then I don't know why my brain wants to replace it with "You Will Believe a Penis Can Manage a Band."

Having now seen it (thanks!), I think it would make a good double bill with Tapeheads (1988).

I have never heard of that one! What's the likeness?

Get Crazy would actually have fit right into a repertory series the Somerville did in 2019 called Reel Films/Fake Bandsβ€”That Thing You Do! (1996), Almost Famous (2000), This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains (1982), etc. We have no idea if it was even under consideration, but are feeling sort of wistful anyway. It really does make me think of the Muppets, though. I suspect The Muppet Show was my original template for professionally putting on a show, but also a certain level of explosions.
