Most of the time Ethan Phillips was wasted on the role of Neelix, who is hands down my least favourite character - except there were moments when he got something decent to do.
He's extraordinary here. I couldn't find a graceful place to mention how much I admired his ability to convey microexpressions through makeup that was giving him no assists. I would now watch him read the phone book and maybe just should.
And this episode is superb - possibly the best Voyager ever did.
Of the episodes I had seen previously, I had loved "Latent Image" for the character of the Doctor and for its surprisingly hard sf, but this one made me write about syndicated TV for Patreon.
