I seem to be hit or miss on the movies themselves, but I like that there was a decade of film where producers were delighted to throw genre mashups at audiences year-round and see what stuck. I keep hoping the 'Thon will screen Dragonslayer (1981) one of these years. I saw it exactly once at exactly the right age to imprint on Caitlin Clarke's Valerian and now I know it even has Ralph Richardson in it. I just can't tell if the movie I remember resembles the movie that exists.
I think that sequence struck me as hokey even when I saw it on TV as a teen in the late 70s. (Might even have been pre-teen if it made it to TV quickly enough)
I wondered if it was a Hollywood acceleration, but no, I looked it up just now and it's in the original novel. They should have left it there!
