Heh, I should read it, because in the actual US Northwest, an apple goddess would be 100% a colonialist thing, not a local spirit of resistance (the apple orchards are fed by the dammed waters of the Columbia, etc. etc.) The water that irrigates the apples starves the salmon and thus the orcas.

But a lot of places have a Northwest.
