That's really poignant, somehow.
A lot of the movie is! It was Ray's first work as director; I can see why people paid attention.
I thought of saying that I feel that way too--about the golf and the horseback riding, anyway--but then figured, actually, so do a lot of people, and probably that's why the screenwriter chose those items: what better way to comment on their ??? ness than by having these innocents** remark on them.
I think you're right. And they're such ordinary things to accept as part of a culture, then suddenly defamiliarized by the way Keechie and Bowie tilt their heads at the entire idea of a putting green.
